What is the Sunnah for welcoming the first newborn child? السنة في استقبال المولود الأول

All praise is due to Allah alone, and may the Salah and Salam of Allah be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and his companions. To answer your question, we say while seeking all the success from Allah:   There are many acts of Sunnah to do when receiving a newborn child, some of which are: (i) Praise Allah for this grace just like how it is prescribed to praise Him when one is blessed with something, (ii) the adhan (call to prayer) should be recited into the child’s right ear and the iqamah (announcement that the prayer is about to be begin) should be recited into the child’s left ear, immediately right after their birth while ensuring the sound is not harmful to their ears, (iii) name the child on the seventh day of their birthday, (iv) shave the head, if the child is a boy, (v) slaughter two sheep if the newborn is a boy and one sheep if the new born is a girl.
