I reside in Jeddah and I have the intention to perform Hajj this year but I cannot enter Makkah while I am wearing the clothing of ihram. Is it permissible to enter Makkah wearing normal clothes and then I wear the clothes of ihram? What am I required to do if I did that? لا أستطيع الإحرام إلا داخل مكة فما العمل

الجواب

All praise is due to Allah alone, and may the Salah and Salam of Allah be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and his companions. To answer your question, we say while seeking all the success from Allah: The obligation is to enter the state of ihram and to wear the attire of ihram from Jeddah. However, if you are unable to fulfill that obligation, then you enter the state of ihram from Jeddah by saying “Labayka Umrah” or “Labayka Hajj”, whichever you intend to do. Then, whenever you are able to wear the clothes of ihram, you must do it and you will be required to offer the expiation for not fulfilling the obligation – that being slaughtering a sheep, or fasting three days, or feeding 6 poor people by giving each poor person half a saa’ of food.
