Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Recompense on the Day of Resurrection will be based on what is in the hearts, not on what was merely apparent. That’s why it is narrated that `Abbas said, “O Messenger of Allah, I was coerced [to remain upon disbelief].” So the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “As for what you made apparent, that is what we took on; and as for what you concealed within you, that is to Allah.” [Majmu` al-Fatawa (19/225)] الجزاء يوم القيامة على ما في القلب.
