Indeed all praise is due to Allah; we praise Him, seek His help, and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides, none can mislead, but he whom He leads astray you will never find for him a protecting guide. I bear witness that none is worthy of worship except Allah alone who does not have any partner and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.        To proceed: O believing brothers! The practice approved of Allah Almighty on His Messengers and their followers is that He appoints for them enemies who wait for disasters to fall against them and plot against them and hinder them from the way of Allah and crave to make it crooked. In this regard, Allah says: “And so we have appointed for every Prophet enemies - devils among mankind and jinns, inspiring one another with adorned speech as a delusion (or by Way of deception.” [al-An’am: 112]. Verily, Allah enjoined on every Prophet and his followers that they should fight and overcome Allah’s enemies. Imam Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “Nothing is more beloved to Allah than his pious servant's overcoming of his enemy (the devil) and angering him.” The most deserving enemy of Allah and His Prophets to be sought refuge from is Satan (on him be the curse of Allah, the angels and all human beings), for he is indeed the deadliest enemy and incisive in his machinations with oldest enmity and tricks. All the enemies of Allah and His Prophets follow Satan’s instructions because they belong to his army and his party. To this end, Allah says: “They are the party of Satan. Verily, it is the party of Satan that will be the losers!” [al-Mujaadilah:19]. O believing servants of Allah! A person who reflects on the Perspicuous Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet will notice how the Quran and Sunnah give great consideration with regards to mentioning Satan’s enmity, machinations, his fighting and how it is necessary for us to fight him. Allah Almighty made mention of this on many places and singled out a full chapter for him. Therefore, Allah’s warnings on this clear enemy are many and detailed in His Holy Book, and this is because of his strong enmity and influence. Allah cursed him because he is the source of every temptation and calamity and the source of all evil and trouble. He took a pledge that he will lead every person astray and will knock on every person’s door and will exhaust every way to achieve that. Speaking about him, Allah says: “(Satan) said: "Because You have sent me astray, surely I will sit In wait against them (human beings) on Your Straight Path. Then I will come to them from before them and behind them, from their Right and from their left, and You will not find Most of them as thankful ones (i.e. they will not be dutiful to You).” [al-A’raaf: 16-17]. In Another verse, Allah says: “(Satan) said: "By Your Might, Then I will surely mislead them all.” [Swad: 82]. O believing worshippers of Allah! There is no way of righteousness or obedience that you can take except that Satan will be sitting on the lookout waiting to hinder you and draw you back. And there is no way of evil and sin you can take except that your enemy will be standing inviting you towards it, adorning and beautifying it for your eyes. So be warned about following him and listening to him because that will lead you to loss in this world and in the hereafter. Regarding Satan, Allah says: “He only invites his followers that they may become the dwellers of the blazing Fire.” [Faatir: 6]. O believers! Allah Almighty clarified Satan’s enmity to us as well as his ways and means and He uncovered his machinations and tricks and He warned us from all of these. O Believers! Allah Almighty through His mercy and favor showed us weapons of fighting the machinations of this enemy. These weapons are many and found in the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet. Whoever adopts them has taken the way of salvation and whoever leaves or scorn them, then his state is like the poet’s saying: You hope for salvation but you did not walk in its path *** A ship does not move on dry ground. So there is no salvation except by these Quranic and Prophetic weapons. Therefore, strive to use them and may Allah bless you for knowing and adopting them. One of the most lethal weapons with the greatest impact is: belief and invoking against the ruthlessness of this clear enemy which is not expected to come to an end. This is because he notified Adam and his descendants of this enmity from the very moment of his creation and presence. So this is an old and continuous battle which will not end or vanish until Allah inherits the earth and whatever is in it.   O Believers! The significance of this weapon – which is taking Satan as an enemy – is that Allah commanded that in His Book in more than one verse. In one of the verses Allah says: “surely, Satan is an enemy to you, so take (treat) Him as an enemy.” [Faatir: 6]. O Believers! Allah’s call on us that we should treat Satan as an enemy does not mean that we should curse him by our tongues, hate him in our hearts while obeying his instructions, following his footsteps, being deceived by his promises and getting carried away with his lies and his whispers. Nay but what is meant by this call is that we should hate him in our hearts, curse him with Allah’s curse, use our limbs to disobey his commandments and turn away from his adornment and ornamentation. This is a more exalted way of getting closer to Allah and the best type of obedience. Ibn al-Qayyim says: “The instruction of taking Satan as an enemy is a warning that effort should be exerted in fighting him like an enemy who does not break the fight against a worshiper as long as he is still living.” Whoever follows Satan in disobeying Allah has taken him as a protector. In this regard, Allah mentions in Surah Marym : “O My father! Worship not Satan. Verily! Satan has been a rebel against the Most Beneficent (Allah). O My father! Verily! I fear lest a torment from the Most Beneficent (Allah) overtake you, so that you become a companion of Satan (in the Hell-fire).” [Maryam: 44-45]. Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) says: “Every riding and walking person who disobeys Allah is part of Satan’s army.” O believers! Beware of false claims, how many claim the enmity of Satan and his dislike yet they are his sincere lovers and his special friends. O Worshippers of Allah! Indeed the greatest weapon which can deliver a worshipper from the evil of Satan and his enmity is: Devotion to Allah Almighty. Those who are devoted to Allah are protected by Allah’s protection.  While addressing Satan soon after he took a pledge to lead mankind astray, Allah says: “Verily! My slaves (i.e the true believers of Islamic Monotheism), you have no authority over them. And All-Sufficient is Your Lord as a Guardian.” [al-Israa’: 65]. In another verse he says: “Verily! He has no power over those who believe and put their trust only in their Lord (Allah).” [al-Nahl: 99]. O believers! The one who according to the description given in these verses, attain belief in Allah Almighty, puts his trust in Allah and devotes himself to him will have closed his doors for his enemy. Devotion that will protect a worshipper against Satan’s machinations and his tricks is that a servant singles out every form of worship for Allah Alone who does not have any partner. He will not worship anything other than Allah, he will not love anyone other than Allah, he will not glorify anything other than Allah, he will not sacrifice for anyone other than Allah, he will not call anyone other than Allah, he will not make a vow by anyone other than Allah, he will not judge except by the law of Allah. Whoever does the opposite of this has fallen in some form of disbelief or polytheism and he will have taken Satan as a patron instead of Allah. We seek refuge in Allah from disappointment. Verily part of avoiding the tricks of your enemy and deterring his effort in leading you astray is seeking refuge in Allah the Exalted, who has great authority from Satan the accursed. To this end, Allah says: “And if an evil whisper comes to you from Satan then seek Refuge with Allah. Verily, He is All-Hearer, All-Knower.” [al-A’raaf: 200]. This seeking of refuge in Allah which we repeat with our tongues is asking protection from Allah. That is to say: seeking protection and resorting to Allah form every form of evil. Ibn Katheer (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “the meaning of your saying: I seek refuge in Allah from Satan the accursed is: I resort to Allah from Satan the accursed, he will not harm me in my religion and in my life, he will not hinder me from doing what Allah commanded me to do or encourage me to do what I have been forbidden to do, for no one can stop Satan except Allah.” For this reason, In His Book, Allah revealed two chapters specifically for seeking protection against Satan’s machinations, evil and enmity. These are Surah al-Falaq and Surah al-Nas. Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “People are in need of these two chapters.” For this reason, many utterances of remembering Allah which were done by the Messenger of Allah (peace be on him) contain seeking refuge in Allah from Satan and his evil. Therefore, strive to seek refuge in Allah from this clear enemy because there is neither might nor power for us except by Allah the Great. A poet said: A worshiper is in Allah’s care and protection *** Against every devil’s temptation If he seeks refuge in The Compassionate when he wakes up *** And also if he reaches evening while he is remembering Allah We seek refuge in Allah from Satan the accursed and from his pride, madness and his evil suggestion. SECOND SERMON Indeed all praise is due to Allah; we praise Him, seek His help, and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides, none can mislead, but he whom He leads astray you will never find for him a protecting guide. I bear witness that none is worthy of worship except Allah alone who does not have any partner and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.        To proceed: If we get seek we are cured by Your remembrance *** Sometimes we leave Your remembrance and we deteriorate Remembering Allah is one of the greatest ways of avoiding Satan’s influence for verily Satan leaves when Allah’s remembrance is being uttered. He dwindles and disappears, not only that but he runs away and he is defeated. Thus remembrance of Allah Almighty is the weightiest thing on His enemy for it is a solid protection and a fortified fortress that a worshipper uses to protect himself from Satan the Accursed. Bukhari and Muslim transmit a hadith on the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace be on him) said: “Whoever says: There is no god but Allah, alone, without any partner. The Kingdom and praise belong to Him and He has power over everything one hundred times a day, it is the same for him as freeing ten slaves. One hundred good actions are written for him and one hundred wrong actions are erased from him, and it is a protection from Satan for that day until the night. No one does anything more excellent than what he does except someone who does more than that.” If your remembrance of Allah becomes less, Satan will influence you by his whispers and he will make assaults on you with his cavalry and infantry and he will make sins seem alluring to you, and he will keep you away from obedience and drawing closer to Allah. Therefore uttering remembrance of Allah is the greatest salvation, so increase in your utterance of the remembrance of Allah Almighty as Allah commanded you to do so when he said: “O You who believe! Remember Allah with much remembrance.” [al-Ahzab: 41]. Increase your remembrance of Allah, especially recitation of the Holy Quran because it is the most powerful thing on Satan. Sahih reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace be on him) said: “Do not make your houses as graveyards. Satan runs away from the house in which Surah al-Baqarah is recited.” Sahih also reports a story of Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) with Satan whereupon Satan said: “Let go of me, I shall teach you some words with which Allah may benefit you." I asked, "What are those words?" He replied, "When you go to bed, recite Ayat-ul- Kursi (2:255) for there will be a guardian appointed over you from Allah, and Satan will not be able to approach you till morning." So I let him go. Next morning the Messenger of Allah (peace be on him) asked me, "What did your prisoner do last night." I answered, "He promised to teach me some words which he claimed will benefit me before Allah. So I let him go." The Messenger of Allah (peace be on him) asked, "What are those words that he taught you?" I said, "He told me: 'When you go to bed, recite Ayat- ul-Kursi from the beginning to the end i.e. He added: 'By reciting it, there will be a guardian appointed over you from Allah who will protect you during the night, and Satan will not be able to come near you until morning'." The Messenger of Allah (peace be on him) said, "Verily, he has told you the truth though he is a liar.” O believers! Indeed one of the reasons for deliverance from Satan and his plot is to know his steps and his approaches because Allah Almighty forbade believers from following the footsteps of Satan when He said: “and follow not the footsteps of Satan. Verily! He is to you a plain enemy.” [al-Baqarah: 208]. A worshipper cannot be able to keep away from the footsteps of Satan unless he knows him. So knowing Satan becomes compulsory for every Muslim because if a compulsory thing cannot be achieved except through a certain thing, then that thing is compulsory. Allah clarified Satan’s footsteps when he said: “O you who believe! Follow not the footsteps of Satan. And whosoever follows the footsteps of Satan, then, Verily He commands Al-Fahshâ' [i.e. to commit indecency (illegal sexual intercourse, etc.)], and Al-Munkar [disbelief and polytheism (i.e. to do evil and wicked deeds; to speak or to do what is forbidden In Islam, etc.)].” [al-Nur:21]. O believers! These are some of the ways mentioned by Allah Almighty which can be used to face this rebellious enemy, therefore abide by them. May Allah help me and you on that. عداوة الشيطان وطرق الحماية منها

To proceed:
If we get seek we are cured by Your remembrance ***

Sometimes we leave Your remembrance and we deteriorate

Remembering Allah is one of the greatest ways of avoiding Satan’s influence for verily Satan leaves when Allah’s remembrance is being uttered. He dwindles and disappears, not only that but he runs away and he is defeated. Thus remembrance of Allah Almighty is the weightiest thing on His enemy for it is a solid protection and a fortified fortress that a worshipper uses to protect himself from Satan the Accursed. Sahih also reports a story of Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) with Satan whereupon Satan said: “Let go of me, I shall teach you some words with which Allah may benefit you." The Messenger of Allah (peace be on him) said, "Verily, he has told you the truth though he is a liar.”
O believers!
