Praise be to Allah, and may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family and his companions.

Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

As to what follows:

According to scholars, there are 4 opinions regarding writing of Quran by Gold:

1^st: Permissibility, this is the opinion held by Hanafis and a group of people from Shaafi madhab.

2^nd: Prohibition, this is the opinion held by some Maalikis, Shaafis and Hanbalis.

3^rd: Detestable, this is the opinion held by majority of jurists and is also the famous opinion of Hanbali madhab.

4^th: Differentiation between the Quran used men and women, a group of scholars are of the opinion that it is permissible for Qurans used by women and children, whereas it is not permissible for Qurans used by men.

What is apparent is that writing of verses takes the same ruling with the ruling on writing on the cover of the Quran. What seems to be more correct is that is detestable because it is wasteful and leaving what is intended from the Quran which is giving it honor by reciting it and acting upon it and not glorifying its verses.
