الجواب
Praise be to Allah, and may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family and his companions.
Textual evidence has indicated that fajr time begins by the appearance of the second dawn, this is unanimously agreed upon. However the sign for the second dawn is the whiteness which spreads throughout the horizon and it is known as Fajr al-Sadiq (the true dawn). This dawn may be accompanied by some redness but the ruling is dependent on the whiteness regardless of the appearance of the redness or not. This is according to the Allah’s saying:
“And eat and drink until the white thread (light) of dawn appears to you distinct from the black thread (darkness of night).” [al-Baqara 2:187]
