Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

They (the Salaf) knew that the Prophet (peace be upon him) will have the equivalent in reward of every good deed that his Ummah performs, for he said, “Whoever calls people to true guidance, will have a reward equal to that of those who follow him, without that detracting from their reward in the slightest.”

And he was the one who called his Ummah to every good. So every good that is performed by anyone from his Ummah, he will have a reward equal to it. Thus, he had no need for anyone to gift him the reward of their prayer, charity, or Qur’an recitation, for he will have the equivalent in reward of what they do, without that detracting from their reward in the slightest.

Moreover, anyone who is more obedient to him and more following of him, is the most deserving of people to him. Allah says:

“Say, ‘This is my way; I invite to Allah with insight, I and those who follow me.’”[Yusuf 12:108]

And the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “The family of Abu so-and-so (i.e. Abu Talib)are not my supporters. My supporter is Allah and the righteous among the believers.”

And he is more deserving of every believer than their own selves.
