Dear respected Shaykh, assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. If a fasting person rinses his mouth and nose and water enters his throat does that nullify his fast?

Answer
Praise be to Allah, and may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family and his companions. Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. As to what follows: In response to your question, we say: There is no problem if water enters the throat of a fasting person because of rinsing his mouth or nose, and his fasting is valid. This is because nullifiers of fasting are not established except by choice, remembering and knowledge. If any of these issues is missing then there is no problem in the fast, and it is valid.
