Question

What is the ruling on treatment of dogs used for security or acquired for decoration?

Answer

Praise be to Allah, and may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family and his companions.

To proceed:

Treatment and medication is allowed for dogs that are possessed for a permissible reason such as hunting, security or plowing. However, what is apparent to me is that treating and medicating dogs that are not permissible to possess is a means of acquiring what is prohibited. The shari’a principle says: whatever leads to a prohibited thing is also prohibited.
